Ever since the British withdrew Palestinian Rocket attacks have increased… we can pick arbitrarily large time periods to justify this. The difference between today and Monday is a tactical escalation, not a strategic change. This is only the latest round of violence, but to claim that Hamas started it is to discredit Israeli actions. They picked this time to start assassinating Hamas officials, an increase in rocket fire after such an event is not unexpected.
