I get that, it’s just that as a woman, I wouldn’t even want to step into that realm knowing so many snakes were in that particular patch of grass. I know assholes are everywhere, but when they can remain anonymous it seems to give a lot of people free license to be awful. It happens in other places too, witness the catcall video of the woman just walking around NYC and guys thinking what they’re doing is just fine. It’s not, it’s terrifying. It won’t end until other men join the fight and get in the faces of these assholes. Across the board. Women have altered their lives in the name of safety since, well, forever and it doesn’t stop men from thinking we’re nothing more than property. This won’t disappear from the culture until men address it, all our efforts as women won’t fix this crap. Gamergate is just a symptom of a much larger disease.

I play video games. My wife and both my girls play video games. I take these assholes deadly seriously and I know lots of other male gamers who are completely disgusted by this scum. The gamergaters are losers and women haters who have latched onto the identity of gamers in attempt to shield themselves from criticism.
