One backwoods bar not far from where I sit now used to be a Punch Palace. Legendary. Probably about 78 or 79 and the joint was jumping. No exaggeration, there was a fist fight about every 15 minutes. Over everything you can imagine. I was at the front bar, which had steel piping separating it from the dance floor. Two guys just start wailing away on each other right in the middle of it. This girl runs out and as she’s screaming “Don’t hurt him” she gets slammed right in the head with a right cross. Down she goes. Now she’s on the floor between them half conscious and they are just firing away, kicking her in the process. I slip under the piping, go over and drag her away by her arm. I help her to her feet. She’s punchy, and when she comes too, she just races back onto the floor where she jumps into the middle and catches another shot to the head. Down she goes again and stays there until the bouncers, who were escorting another battered patron out come in and break it up. You worked that bar you earned your money.
