Apple opposes judge’s order to hack San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone

(CNN)Apple has responded to a California judge’s order to help the FBI break into the phone of one of the San Bernardino shooters with a public letter saying it opposes such a move, labeling the instruction “an overreach by the U.S. government.”

While I understand that the FBI has a compelling reason to access that phone and any information that MAY be stored on it, it is also a known fact that law enforcement has a long history of abusing the privacy rights of Americans and any software developed by Apple to break the security of their product would be abused sooner rather than later.

I would think Apple already has the capacity to do that. It has always been the case that the government, when it has probable cause, can obtain search warrants to inspect property for evidence which is otherwise off-limits.
