IMO, if you want a gun, then you should have to do the following:

1) pass a background check. I know that won’t screen out all the bad guys, but it can’t hurt. And there needs to be a consistent national database, not just state level.

2)you need to pass a proficiency and safety test, along with a written test about laws. You have to to get a driver’s license, every gun owner should have to do the same. No license, no guns. That education should also force people to look at pictures and hear testimony from trauma doctors who have to try to fix the damage these weapons cause.

3)Every weapon needs to be registered and titled. If you sell it, then there should be a title transfer. We have the means to do all of this, use the DMV models, if it’s doable for cars, then it should be no problem to do it for guns.

4) Mandatory insurance. Again, I’m repeating myself, but ammosexuals always like to tell us how cars are the real evil weapons of mayhem, so let’s at least put the same restrictions on guns that we have for cars. I have no clue what insurance companies would want to handle this mess, but there should be insurance requirements of some kind.

5) Ban the fucking weekend warrior tough guy shit. No civilian needs semi automatic rifles. Institute buyback programs and have an amnesty period where people can rid themselves of this garbage. Ban online and retail sales of all the fucking fashion accessories (there I said it) like flak jackets and other body armor and other bullshit. After the amnesty is over, it’s jail and/or heavy fines for those who just can’t stop cuddling and spooning with their fucking guns. Open a national hotline where people can turn in their asshole neighbors and family members who just can’t grow the fuck up and be decent citizens.

6) and this is the hard part. There needs to be a consistent, nationwide set of laws here. Not piecemeal bullshit that differs from state to state. That is a big part of the reason why we’re here.

I know none of this is easy, but I have to believe that most people want us to do better and I am goddamned fucking tired of the rest of us being forced to capitulate to the demands of a very tiny portion of the population who has lost their fucking minds.
