Yunno, one basic conservative principle is that America is the Great Land of Opportunity and that anybody who works hard enough, regardless or ethnic or social background, can succeed.
So here we had a fellow who came from no sort of economically or politically privileged background, worked hard, became editor of the Harvard Law Review, became a US Senator and eventually get elected to the highest office in the land and what reaction did we get from so many conservatives?
They could not bring themselves to even begrudgingly accept his achievements and went on to demonize and defame him, even insisting that he was not our legal or legitimate President.

Yep. TBH the GOP hasn’t had a nominee that grew up in America’s middle class since Bob Dole.
