I disagree, he was always explicitly honest about his gang mentality, he just didn’t like having it described as such.

I wanna be clear that I don’t post his tweets in order to generate abuse towards him. He’s a deeply troubled person. There’s something palpably pathological going on in his family background. The number of hints he dropped paint the picture of an emotionally and possibly cognitively stunted individual who latched onto the Republican political identity in order to ingratiate himself to a clearly abusive father. He’s as much a victim of patriarchal conservatism as anything else.

That was my take too. His father seemed to be more than just a strong influence in the family. It appeared to be a you must do and do not question relationship.
