re: #133 Anymouse š¹
When I was stationed in Spain, I travelled to Barcelona occasionally. While I didnāt involve myself in Spanish politics (not my business or place), I overheard others talking about things.
Every time I was in Catalonia I would hear the occasional grumbling about independence or poorer parts of Spain were sucking on wealthy Cataloniaās tax money (hear the same kind of talk in the USA), but no serious effort to break away other than a few wingnut parties.
That was back in 92-94. I have not been back since, so I donāt know if grumbling turned into a real grass roots movement or an Astroturf movement.
From what I understand, itās been rumbling since Francoās death, and probably even during his regime. Itās hard to say, but again, I wouldnāt be surprised if Russia would seek to take advantage of a long-standing grievance to further their overall strategic goals (in this case, fuelling separatist/independence movements throughout the EU member states).
