There is a natural tendency for remote areas to be conservative and dense areas liberal. Simply in the broadest terms-Rural means self reliance is rewarded, urban means cooperation and interaction is rewarded.
Only in appearance, not in reality. Without massive government intervention for rural electrification, road-building, etc, rural living would be a primitive existence. Without subsidies for rural hospitals and rural doctors, they wouldn’t have available medical care. Not to mention those nifty firefighters doing their best to stop wildfires.
