The whole Julius Caesar blowup reminds me a bit of the Mohammed Cartoon kerfuffle of several years back: the people who were behind both are aware of the nuances, that in one case, the governments in Western Democracies do not dictate or restrict the content of newspapers, or that a stage play can take liberties with the setting to make it more relevant, but it both cases, the perpetrators pushed the outrage angle in order to promote a particular agenda.

And in both cases, they knew that their target audiences were too undereducated to realize those distinctions.
