Yeah, the suicide belt was powerful enough to kill him and others around him but left a recognizable face. Guess it is possible.

Can’t remember where I read it - it was a few years ago - but apparently the nature of a suicide vest/belt detonation is such that the head of the bomber is often found separated from the body and more or less intact. It was just presented as a macabre trivium at the time, but it would fit the description here.
