My ex’s family came from a Central Virginia farm. (And were all really nice folks.) Being more familiar than I, my ex, and her father and mother gave me a tour of Richmond. They brought me in from the northwest and we drove to Monument Avenue. We turned onto monument avenue at the Stonewall Jackson monument. The Confederate statues are placed so they are facing south. Which meant that my first glimpse of Monument Avenue was of the North end of Jackson’s South facing horse.

I of course turned to my father-in-law and said “Well, that’s a fine welcome”. He laughed.
