Manga, the real manga, always seemed to me to be more about the story (and the language) than about the drawn pictures.

The Japanese are voracious readers, and their publishing industry puts out high quality material. However, the manga pubs tend to be the lowest quality, and rapidly produced. Everywhere I would go in Japan one could find used manga compilations (which become quite thick books) piled up outside of stores and houses, to be carted off the next day to the recycler. Also, the homeless guys would collect and resell these manga on the street.

It’s a bit of a culture shock for an American to show up in Japan, ride a train, and notice an adult man next to himself, reading an “adult” manga.

Honestly given the things that go into adult Japanese manga, I think it is a culture shock for anyone to see such stuff.

I do not want to bash an entire nation for this or all manga everywhere - however, I don’t think any civilized person should have a taste for vore or tentacle rape.
