I think the tax return issue is a red herring. Eventually, Romney will release additional returns and the only thing we learn is that he was very rich in 1990, too. Then he will be able to make hay from there having been nothing there, just as he claimed.

Your probably right that I doubt the returns are going to show what the accusers want but i don;t think he’s going to release the extra returns. Politicians usually don’t cave on this stuff because it allows opponents the opportunity to fish through additional material looking for dirt. Obama’s birth certificate was a rare case.
