And something like 9 of the 10 hottest years on record in the JMA, NOAA, and NASA datasets all occurred after 2000. And the short term and long term trends both show warming that is undeniable except for those that attempt to cherry pick based on the previous warmest year on record (which was surpassed by this past year).

By cherry picking the start date, the denialists were claiming that there was a pause, even though we haven’t seen a colder than average year globally in…. decades.

The statistical evidence is overwhelming that global warming is occurring and that human actions are a part of the reason why. Yet, the denialists are still holding to their nonsensical claims.

More importantly, the GOP is pushing this dangerous nonsense because they’ve tied global warming to Obama and Democrats. The GOP furthers their own agenda by undermining education across the nation (thwarting common core isn’t the only problem - actively pushing anti-science agenda by trying to inflict religious belief in science classrooms is perhaps more dangerous). And with GOPers thoroughly indoctrinated on anti-science, they’re in positions of power to undermine science funding and actively interfering on basic research (as with their proposals to demand oversight and politicize the NSF). The GOP is opposed to basic research even though many advancements in science are the result of basic research where the outcomes aren’t necessarily known in advance. Knowledge for knowledge sake is apparently verbotten to the GOP.
