There was one Civil War General on the Confederate side, who did work for reconciliation. He denounced what he did, joined the Republican Party, and worked for the expansion of Civil Rights. He even led a group of black troops against a white supremacist White League Militia.
How many statues exist of James Longstreet in the south? The only one is at his home/museum. There is also one at Gettysburg. Confederates blamed the loss of the war on Longstreet. He is a symbol of white-anti-white supremacy.
