Unless you’re both dead set on an MG, I recommend a Mazda Miata for a fun little car to drive. Newer mechanics, easier to get serviced, etc. I’m partial to the first generation models from the 1980s and ’90s, but that’s just me.

That’s my wife’s call, as the car will be hers (I might get to drive it from time to time if I’m good). And despite all the horror stories about what a nightmare they can be to maintain, she does kind of have her heart set on an MG. We were also looking at Triumphs, but they’re actually selling for quite a bit more than MGs from what we’ve seen.

For either one, take a magnet with you and test the body panels to see if they’ve got lots of Bondo covering up rust or severe damage to the steel panels.

We did that, and the body is in surprisingly good shape! According to the dealer, it’s been garage kept at all times and barely even driven in Winter, so the exposure to salt appears to have been minimal.
