I recently watched Gimme Shelter with my Dad. We both got the impression it was just terribly organized through and through.

It was. And nobody comes out looking good, except for Marty Balin from the Airplane, who tried to stop a Hell’s Angels beatdown and got knocked cold for his trouble.

The Stones looked particularly bad. It was their decision to hire the Angels and pay them with $500 worth of beer. I’m been in proximity to the HAs a lot of times, and that in itself was a sure recipe for disaster.
