I knew about these but did not know that there were two of them in Dien Bien Phu during the siege. The women were Vietnamese and Algerian. The Algerians were repatriated with the Red Cross while the Vietnamese were sent away for “re-education.”
A lot of grief, crime, and venereal disease could have been avoided if US forces had had a similar system. It was practically unthinkable though, for obvious reasons, the chief one being the massive influence of religious hypocrisy in the US.

What you and I experienced was total grossness. Just disgusting. Even as a young man I couldn’t tolerate what I was seeing.
