Calling 3 Wood, (I have a baseball question..)

What’s better for a young hitter, an aluminum or wood bat? Common knowledge is the ball has more pop from an aluminum bat, but I think the wood bat has a bigger sweet spot because they are heavier.

Odd thing is I haven’t seen a single wood bat in watching and coaching LL for 4 years. But my 14 YO tried one today at BP and loved it for the pop and distance. Could it be the aluminum bats the team has are old and lost their pop?
