McErick’s analysis actually makes a bit of sense until you get to the last paragraph. If the GOP ignores the 4 current candidates, the full year of campaigning they’ve engaged in, the 20 debates we’ve had to endure, the primaries that have already been held, etc., and just pulls Bobby Jindal, Paul Ryan, or Jeb Bush out of their ass at the last moment, that seems like a disaster in the making. Some conservatives may be happy, but the rest of the country will want to know why this year long adventure was nothing more than a charade. And a candidate who jumps in at the last moment has huge challenges: fundraising, organization, lack of time, just introducing himself to the public, and of course explaining why the Republican primary system broke down.

You know, I’m still not sure what the purpose of those debates were. We didn’t need twenty of the damn things to tell us that Rick Perry was dropped on the head a few too many times.
