I’m not sure I’m getting your meaning.

Some parts of society give a framework for a good life that will lead one to heaven. Go to college, get married, work everyday, go to church —you know follow the rules. Some men seem to take that way, way to seriously. They seriously believe it will get them into heaven.

Instead of following the framework because they want marriage and family and they want to have a relatively stress-free life —compared to what they would get if they totally followed their impulses. They do it because are supposed to and resent that other’s don’t. And when their kids are grown and they are grandparents, they see themselves as examples of success who can mentor the rest of us.

They see the LGBT community as moral slackers.

They tend to be very arrogant and self-righteous. The idea that the rest of the world hasn’t bought into their framework or wasn’t taught it at all is beyond them. The idea that G-d doesn’t exist or doesn’t care just puts them over the edge of total cognitive dissonance.
