Until recently, the ammosexual right’s bark was considerably worse than its bite, and it would be understandable if rational people had under-estimated the threat. We are seeing a gradual and accelerating rise in violence and confrontation, though, as the far right’s fantasies make the transition to reality. We had isolated attacks on law enforcement officers, like the West Memphis ambush, then the shockingly overt Bundy Ranch standoff (which thankfully didn’t result in any deaths but easily could have). Now we have this barbarous massacre by an avowed white supremacist who is obviously steeped in far right propaganda. So far, we have not seen any massacres of peaceful demonstrators, or attacks on federal troops, or vigilante take-overs of whole jurisdictions but with what we have seen so far we cannot rule out the possibility. Right wing media continue to dismiss people like Roof as isolated nuts. He is indeed nuts but a cursory look at RW message boards will show that millions of Americans agree with most of his stated tenets so he is far from isolated.

Just wait until Jade Helm starts up next month. The 15th, I believe.

Then I think we might hit criticality.
