Right, and largely because of the embargo and travel restrictions our knowledge of Cuba is pretty limited. The more open we allow Cuba to be, the easier it will be to influence actions there. So, in effect, Cuba is taking a real chance here.

But of course for a certain segment of the U.S. any loosening of our policies towards Cuba means we are appeasement!

Right, I am sorry but the double standards on Cuba annoy the hell out of me. There are much worse dictatorships that we have tolerated for longer. The sole problem with American right wingers have with Cuba is its economic system not its human rights violations. Well I shouldn’t say sole but it’s their main problem because I don’t see them wanting to shut down relations with the PRC or Saudi Arabia where we have economic interests with them.
