I wonder what Barr’s reasons were for nixing the Chauvin plea deal (to plead guilty to 3rd degree murder, IIRC).

They must have been malicious.

Given the way the rabid right wing has been discussing this trial, they expected him to fight that he was “just following proper procedure,” and they aimed to make the argument that convicting him would have a deleterious effect on the ability of police to do their dangerous job.
