Yes, the strain was “cultured in a laboratory”… meaning, doctors took sputum samples from victims, cultured them in a laboratory to produce a quantity of the pathogen sufficient for testing, and tested them. Ever heard of getting a “throat culture” done to check for strep, Alex? Did you think that meant your doctor was creating strep to infect you with it?
