My only point would be, what other factors that are unique to America do we need to take into account that might push groups over the edge? Having a leader viewed as an outsider did not occur in Germany (as far as I know) but that’s an issue facing America with the birthers.

I don’t believe Germany can be used as a map, but I do believe there are lessons to be learned. Every situation is ultimately unique however.

True. The key to keeping the crazies out of power is to de-legitimize them, and not let any leaders they put up attain great power. This latter may mean smearing said people and will certainly mean negative campaigning.
