OK, this one gets on my nerves every time I hear it. It was especially bad to hear it on St. Patrick’s day (kiss me I’m Irish, anyone?). But the Irish aren’t alone. There’s Oktoberfest. There are a crapload of Celtic festivals that emphasize the Scots over the Irish. Oh, let’s not forget the tons of Scandinavian celebrations through Wisconsin and Minnesota (and some communities in Iowa and North Dakota). Polish fests (the big one is in Milwaukee, but they’re all through the midwest).

These racists will whine that they aren’t allowed ethnic pride. What utterly galls me is that they BELIEVE it, and will boggle when confronted with a list of counterpoints - usually followed by “But that’s not the same.”

Sorry, had to vent.
