They really did get screwed I think more than any European nation. You bring up a forgotten point which is the Soviets invaded as well.

Another problem for the Polish people is that the interwar government was far right wing authoritarian (in reaction to the Soviet government and the Polish-Soviet War of 1919-1921 - another part of why I call it The World War. The fighting never stopped from 1914 to 1989, it just shifted locations and participants.) They may have brought us the early Enigma machine but honestly, that was about the single good thing that government did.
