America could try actually treating China as a friend rather than threatening them continuously by, for example, sailing nuclear carrier task groups up and down just outside its national waters. It could make trade agreements with them rather than trying (unsuccessfully) to isolate them and fight economically-damaging tarriff wars. But, if the USA’s position is that China needs to do as it’s told by the Americans and not talk back then I don’t hold out much hope.

Countries don’t quite work that way.
