The Republicans picked up several House seats in the recent election.

About this I wailed on election night.

I am a wet blanket. I get that. People don’t want to squash their enthusiasm.

Yet here is my claim: we are worse off today, in regards to being a society that can govern itself, than we were 4 years ago.

Trump got vastly more votes than any Republican before him.

The Trumpers in my Facebook timeline are in full denial/DARVO mode.
