I don’t think they have the same power anymore — remember that Hillary Clinton ad about the 3 AM phone call? It was immediately mocked by SNL, etc. Nobody takes it seriously anymore…(maybe even a very real nuclear threat from Iran merits only a yawn..)

Mocked or not that terminology (3 AM phone call) has entered the lexicon. I believe it was extremely effective. Not enough to derail the Obama campaign, but it will be used to describe a candidate’s decision making skills for the foreseeable future.
