There is a natural tendency for remote areas to be conservative and dense areas liberal. Simply in the broadest terms-Rural means self reliance is rewarded, urban means cooperation and interaction is rewarded.

Urban areas also have a higher population density. That’s the point.

More people = more voters = higher numbers for the blue patches on the map. Sure, self-reliance and all that matters, but when it comes down to raw numbers, there are more people in the so-called blue areas of that map than in the red ones.

Look at Texas. There’s a lot of red, but most of those counties are farmland or sparsely populated. The major cities and areas in this state are all blue on the map. Texas is poised to be a swing state in the next decade. The GOP ignores minority voters at their own peril.
