What is rather ironic, IMHO, is that people think that way back in the mythical utopia right after the Revolution, there was no such thing as national debt. Countries never borrowed or defaulted. They transacted all business with exchanges of bags of gold.

Because, debt is immoral and the Founding Fathers were saints.
