re: #126 Tigger2005

The compensation being offered is ridiculous. If they wanted to head off lawsuits they wouldn’t have offered a lousy $500. I would calculate the amount a reasonable contingency plan to get the passengers off the ship quickly would have cost, and split that. Then add a couple thou in punitive damages.

Getting the passengers off the ship quickly has no “reasonable” cost. You’ve got ship to ship transfer or helicopter shuttle (whether by sling lift or deck landings - assuming the ship has a deck that’ll support the landing.) both are risky, time consuming, and expensive.

This will have to go through the courts, but triumph Carnival is going to be asked why they didn’t send control staff when the onboard crew lost control. They’re going to be asked why they didn’t send large power units (mounted on-deck) to provide power for critical services. They’re going to be asked just what the training is given the jungle rules that seem to have taken over - that crew lost control.

fwiw, I suspect what triumph Carnival is really dreading is the safety investigation related to all that. There are a lot of exemptions for cruise ships but they aren’t total, and it looks like some that weren’t exempted (see above questions) still got ignored.
