I think so too, but:
1. Our decision-makers might not be that smart/nasty.
2. You, as a believer, would not like it if they were.

I dunno. As I mentioned in my #4, the GOP seems to be doing an excellent job of applying the IS/AQ strategy (sans the violent bits) to polarize Americans.
