(Yes, the latest iteration of the policy allows continued service for those already serving, but it would mean new people who are trans would not be able to serve, which would effectively, over time, result in ending open transgender service.)

Whatever the conservative majority on SCOTUS might ultimately conclude on merits in this case and others, I hope it resists these repeated calls to act as appellate court of first review whenever Trump Administration asks. That way lies serious legitimacy questions. /fin
