Arizona, Colorado, Maine, and North Carolina are going to be tough defenses for the GOP. What little polling there has been thus far is showing tight races in places we wouldnāt normally expect, including McConnellās own race. Hell, Purdue in Georgia against a generic Democrat is only running at 35%. The field might be much wider than we would normally think. Trumpās historically unpopular and there seems to be indications that this might be one of the highest turn out elections weāve seen in living memory.
Iām choosing to be optimistic, perhaps overly so, because the alternative is just too damn depressing.
During a phone conversation last night, a friend insisted that if he ever exhibits any taint of optimism, I have to slap him (metaphorically speaking) to bring him back to reality. But as you say, reality is too depressing. Maybe we should consider that we arenāt living in the Depression nor in the depths of WWII ā that life has been far worse here for most people even if the President has never been this vile or treasonous. Of course, my āupbeatā (///) mantra has always been ā nothing is so bad that it canāt get worse.
