Ah. The fantasy of being the underdog fighting off the government.

For certain values of “government” where gay people, non-Christians, and liberals are “the government” regardless of their politics or employment.

Also, consider that the back end of the “the military will back us” aspect of this fantasy is that they want to bear their arms against unarmed civilians who think differently, and imagine that the armed forces will help them in supressing those civilians.

I’ve quizzed a dudebro on occasion about what the endgame for this whole “popular uprising” business is. After all, in their minds, they rise up against the “tyrannical” government and imprison many of those holding office for their “unconstitutional” actions. But what then? Call elections to elect a new government? That just puts them at risk of the same sort of people they disapprove of being elected. Install a military government or appoint one? No provision for that in the Constitution, so they’d be in violation of it.

The response I usually got? That they hadn’t thought that far, but were sure when the time came, those who’d overthrown the popularly elected government would make sure that the Constitution was followed.
