There’s any number of imams out there who consider music in general to be ‘haram’, even though there’s absolutely bupkis in the Qur’an about music being forbidden whatsoever.

They cite hadiths, but the problem there is 1) the authenticity of said hadiths is dubious and 2) if a hadith contradicts the Qur’an, it’s not valid.

Typically, these kind of folks just want to ban anything that looks like it might be fun. Heaven forbid (eyeroll) that people want to have a good time.

I’ve gone to Iron Maiden and AC/DC concerts in Prague with a Muslim friend of mine, and former co-worker, who’s pretty good at scoring tickets to such events, and his wife really isn’t into that style of music.

Of course, my background in Islam is the Naqshbandi-Haqqani school, where we play music, sing and chant, so needless to say, that particular school certainly has no problems with music.

Poor Suffis get the short end of the stick when fundamentalists get going. Shia hate the Sunnis, Sunnis hate the Shia, everybody hates the Suffis.
