It’s not an iron-clad rule of mine, but my leeriness about the quality of a sequel to an apparently standalone movie is directly proportional to how long it’s been since the first installment.

It has served me well.

My rule’s generally been the exact opposite - see Terminator and T2 - but I think comedies suck at sequels. It’s because they have to work harder in the second one, which defeats the purpose of comedy.
