The trouble is, it takes tremendous strength to maintain the double life that is being a closeted liberal in a conservative family. I use the terminology intentionally - it really is somewhat like being a closeted homosexual, only without the legislative protections that implies. The end results can often be as devastating to an individual if the “coming out of the closet” is poorly received. I can’t ever fault anybody for choosing the path of least resistance, even though I walk a different path.

I have no doubt that it’s difficult for you but what I can’t respect is how he would use it as an excuse. If he were a younger guy, maybe I’d be a bit more sympathetic. Honestly, the times I grew most personally frustrated with DF is when he would defend ends justify the means foreign policy. He just seemed incapable of empathy especially in that arena.
