One of my forebears was a hero in the Austrian Army. he was awarded a stipend to send his descendants to school. My maternal grandmother did not watn to go to school. they told her if she did not go to school, they would marry her off to some fellow in Cleveland.

She refused and was put on the boat in 1912.
