Wait, would that include someone like Phil Mickelson who hinted at retirement after claiming that his taxes in CA (fed and state combined) would hit 62% or something like that, but then backtracked.

As it is, tax experts note that he’s probably getting taxed closer to 50% and probably less than that if he’s got a competent tax accountant or lawyer since there are any number of deductions, credits, and strategies that can reduce the tax burden (such as a federal credit for state taxes, charitable deductions, etc.)

And if he’s not taking advantage of any and all of these legal methods, he should probably fire his accountant.
