Stopping Hitler getting Czechoslovakia somehow is probably the best war-game scenario to prevent WWII, but how do you do that?
By the fall of 1938, a major war was inevitable. But if Hitler had to physically conquer Czechoslovakia, the Wehrmacht would have taken serious losses assaulting fortified positions head-on, and then would have to decide where to strike next with fewer tanks, less capacity to build them (the Czech production lines likely having been damaged or destroyed), and with both Poland and France alert and mobilized, whichever of them was the next target.
And speaking of Francisco Franco, it is interesting to speculate what would have happened to the German troops still in Spain in the event of war in 1938.
