I’d like Waterson more if he wasn’t apparently an asshat in person. (I admit I may be getting him confused with someone else).
Is he supposed to be? I hadn’t heard that. I think Waterston was an interesting choice for Abe since Waterston I dunno just exudes Ivy League Northeastern WASP rather than Kentucky country boy but he does have a sort of high pitched voice which is what I heard Abe had but as I said, it’s difficult when you have no recordings. One of my favorite acting stories though is how Daniel Day-Lewis prepared for Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York, he found a very old recording of Walt Whitman and based the New York accent he used on that.
