On espn.com, they’re reporting that the two football players from John Jay HS in Texas who combined to blind side and then spear a referee during a game are claiming that one of their coaches told them to do it. They say that it was payback for the referee having “missed calls”.

Given the fear which kids have for their coaches, I can totally believe this. A player is not going to intentionally attack a ref as these two did. A spur-of-the-moment bump or shove, I could see. That’s an emotional response. The event, however, show premeditation. If it is true that a coach told them to do it, my guess he’ll stay quiet and let the players take the heat cause he is a chickenshit and knows that it would mean his job.
