Well… we (the US) when through almost a century of compromise on the slavery issue. From the revolution, through the Articles of Confederation, then the Constitution, then decades of legal disputes and Congressional laws.

So it took a long time for the issue to work itself out.

This isn’t 100 years ago. This is now. And I still ask the question.
