A lifelong veryvery Christian, taught Sunday School for 60 years; finally had to switch churches when the Elmer Gantrys got too publicly powerful. He’s everything Christians who take their scripture seriously should aspire to; too bad his foreign policy was hit and miss, and his understanding of economics (and his understanding of Washington power structures) was so inadequate.

But I’d never doubt his True Christian-ness. Not for a second.
