In some fairness, there are white Americans involved with Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, which is a Japanese sect of Pure Land Buddhism. From what I recall, Jodo Shinshu is growing (slowly) with white American converts in parts of the West Coast.
When I lived in the US, there was a fellow, a white guy, who was the reverend of Oregon Buddhist Temple; he’d started off as an Episcopalian and found his way to Jodo Shinshu.
